Piper, who voices Mabel Tanaka, and Bobby, the voice of King George, spent the morning exploring London’s first fully accessible urban beaver reintroduction site, learning about the return of beavers to west London and seeing first-hand how these remarkable ecosystem engineers are transforming the landscape.

Although beavers are most active around dusk, the pair were able to discover plenty of signs of their activity throughout the site: from freshly felled trees and feeding stations to the network of dams, canals and wetlands that the family has created since arriving at Paradise Fields in October 2023. The visit also offered an opportunity to learn how the project is studying urban human-beaver coexistence while demonstrating the ecological benefits that beavers can bring to cities, including improved biodiversity, natural flood management and healthier wetland habitats.
Meet Mabel!
One of the highlights of the visit was naming one of our previously unnamed beavers.

With Piper voicing the film’s protagonist Mabel, there could hardly have been a more fitting choice. We are therefore delighted to introduce Mabel, one of the original five beavers released at Paradise Fields in 2023.
With her new name, Mabel completes our family of named beavers alongside Woody, Willow, Chompy and Chewbacca (Chewy). Chompy and Chewy received their names through our 2025 naming competition, following suggestions submitted by primary school pupils from across the London Borough of Ealing.
The story of Hoppers, which follows a young animal lover who uses technology to experience life as a beaver while helping protect wildlife and their habitats, shares many of the same themes that inspire our own project—encouraging people to better understand nature and demonstrating that wildlife has an important place alongside us, even in the heart of our cities.
